Planning means getting the right person to the right place at the right time with the right tools and parts. Get one of these parameters wrong and the ball is dropped.

There is not one correct solution for planning thousands of jobs to hundreds of technicians, only better or worse outcomes.

The ExpandIT Planning Board is designed to use the available information from Dynamics AX/NAV in combination with information from the field to assist Dispatchers in avoiding making bad choices.

Dispatchers are much better than any computer program at making good decisions based on incomplete information. John and Joe may score identical points in the system, but John is better with difficult customers, while Joe is better working on his own. Dispatchers can use experience and human logic to dispatch the best person for the customer and for the company.

Hard Logic.

All this only has a happy conclusion if time, place, available parts, and tools are correct—that’s hard logic, and that’s what AX/NAV and ExpandIT Planning Assist is great at.

ExpandIT Planning Assist uses information from AX/NAV in combination with the geographical location of jobs and technicians to suggest the possible technicians for a job and/or possible jobs for a technician.

ExpandIT Planning Assist sorts all the candidates using estimated travel times. The Dispatcher can then create a final plan based on the available fuzzy information and turn-by-turn travel times. The Dispatcher can also allow for stay-overs and other parameters to resolve critical situations for a subset of the plan.

Empowering the Dispatcher.

More than 10 years of experience has shown us that empowering Dispatchers to make many good decisions beats automated, black box systems that calculate the ‘best’ solutions with costly mistakes caused by deficient system parameters. 
After completion, Actuals are compared to Plan, and Dispatchers can adjust the relevant parameters in AX or NAV and ExpandIT Planning Board when appropriate. Changes in the business environment can be incorporated into the solution because AX/NAV and ExpandIT Planning Board are open application code systems, thereby giving Dispatchers a flexible tool that can grow with the company.
